““Kemble showed great innovation with the renovation of our Semi in the Eastern Suburbs, presenting us with the idea of an off-site prefabricated second floor which would be craned in. Due to the nature of the property and the tight proximity of the neighbours this approach reduced the overall programme and disruption to the attached properties and the busy surrounding area. Even before we formally engaged Kemble he worked hard to carry out extensive investigation on the house and liaise with council to make sure there was as much to know about the project as possible. Throughout the entire project Kemble remained involved and communicated with us regularly. “Kemble has worked on two projects for us. We live in a small 1940s brick house with stairs up from the street.
Kemble did a major renovation for us over ten years ago, bringing our unrenovated house into the twentieth century. The work involved excavation into sandstone behind the house. This was managed very professionally and miraculously the whole project came in under budget. Kemble is fantastic about visualising connections and integrating new work into old. The brick edging he did along our new bifold steel doors perfectly matched the external brick walls as if they were original. He did a great job on our old fireplace-leaving the tiny 1940s bricks exposed at the base whilst transforming the rest of the fireplace into an elegant modern fireplace incorporating a Jetmaster. There is a great six metre long concrete cantilevered seat in our new courtyard. At the time of this first renovation we were anxious and very concerned about the budget and details of the project. At times we were slow making decisions but Kemble was patient and always worked through our issues and never lost his cool. The one hiccup (a timber yard supplying the wrong timber flooring) Kemble rectified without complaint to ensure the new timber matched the existing, despite the inconvenience and extra work involved.

We were so happy with Kemble’s work than when we came to the long-standing project this year of replacing and repairing our front stairs, we went straight to Kemble. It was a relatively small but I think quite fiddly job but Kemble was happy to do it. We installed a flight of steel stairs and steel bannisters that were built off site and replaced a flight of concrete stairs. Kemble insisted on high quality and sent the stairs back to the manufacturer when he identified a fault. The stairs look fabulous but what really made the project was the detailing Kemble suggested that again integrated the new work with the old and tied the whole project together, delivering a much superior result at very little additional cost. His team also did a great job with a small sandstone wall.

Kemble’s team are always tidy and courteous and a pleasure to work with. I would recommend Kemble to anyone.
